Raikou is a playful, active, and extremely loving pup who was sadly surrendered when his owner fell on hard times. Despite the big change in his life, he’s eager to connect with people. Raikou frequently seeks attention, greets new people warmly, and allows full-body pets. He takes treats gently and knows how to sit like a gentleman. When not actively engaging, he’s happy to lay calmly beside you. Raikou also enjoys playtime and is looking for an active, loving home where he can live his best life! Could that be with you? Eligible for rescue, foster, and adoption. Meet Raikou at ACCT Philly any day of the week from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. or email Foster@acctphilly.org to learn more about fostering. Videos: Raikou: https://youtu.be/mTEf7kkfXYM Behavior notes: Per staff 2/18/25: Raikou was nervous as I approached him in the kennel. He backed up to the far end as I showed him the leash. I bent down and talked to him gently and tapped the kennel floor and he slowly came over and allowed me to leash him. He came out easily and walked well to M&G room. He approached potential adopters slowly but loosely then allowed petting. He sniffed around the room. Was not interested in toys or treats but did sit nicely when offered a treat. He seems people oriented but was a bit sensitive to some handling along his back. He gave quick whip around corrections. He saw me drinking from a plastic bottle and got excited by the sound. He tried biting the bottle and was jumping around me trying to get at it. He actually got a bit mouthy because of this but it was very gentle. Seemed like he wanted to play. I walked him back to his kennel. He went right in without issue. Overall he seems like a really great dog who just needs a slow approach! Day Trip Notes 2/18/25: We had an awesome day trip with Raikou today! It was love at first sight from the moment he walked into the lobby. A few sniffs and he saw that we were cool and it was ALL LOVE for the rest of the day. We started out with a trip to Chick-fil-A for a pup cup, of course. He did so well riding in the car with my teen daughters. He sat right down at their feet in the backseat and was chill the whole ride. He got his pup cup which he REALLY enjoyed. We bought him an 8-piece nuggets and he ate that plus my fries and half my sandwich! After that, we found a quiet neighborhood and took him for a short walk. He did his "dog business" immediately so he definitely seems housebroken. After his walk, we were lucky to find an empty playground for more FUN! He loved running on the leash with the girls, but he was NOT getting on that spinny thing (although his tail never stopped wagging as he watched them go around and around.) We gave him some treats (he's not a fan of dog cookies), and his own chew bone toy, which he loved. After the park, it was time to go back, sadly. We made a quick stop at WAWA for gas and he was patient in the car as the girls and I took turns going inside while someone stayed with him. We were SO SAD to bring him back, he's a wonderful dog and we hope he finds his forever home soon. 02/16/2025 staff notes: KENNEL PRESENTATION: Raikou was on the backside of his kennel lying by the door. I tried to call him over but he would not move so I lowered the divider and went to the side he was on. He stood up when he saw me and just stood at the front and allowed me to easily leash him! LEASH SKILLS: Pulls moderately HANDLING : -At first Raikou was pretty stressed in the room pacing, whining, and panting heavily. After some laps around the room and time he began to warm up though! He solicited attention from me frequently and when another handler entered the room he greeted them as well. He allowed full body pets, but can be a bit jumpy at times! He took treats gently when offered and showed knowledge of sit. When not engaging with him he would lay calmly beside me.
