Meet Gritty Gritty is a 6‑year‑old mini poodle, weighing about 17 lbs, with a soft red coat and a heart that’s quietly learning how to trust. He was rescued from a commercial breeding farm in Lancaster, where he spent his life confined to a cage, only taken out to be used for breeding. It was not a kind start—but it didn’t break his spirit. When Gritty first came into our care, he was understandably timid and scared, unsure of the world and the people around him. With the gentle patience and consistent care of our volunteers, he has begun to show us who he truly is. These days, Gritty wags his tail and gets excited when his favorite volunteers come by, a small but powerful sign of how far he’s come. True to his name, Gritty has a quiet resilience and a soft fighting spirit—never flashy, just steady and brave in the ways that matter most. He’s a good boy with a tender heart, still learning that love can be safe, and waiting for a home that will continue his journey with kindness and patience.
