Phoenix Animal Rescue Renewing hope for homeless animals, one day at a time.

Hi Bruno,

I just wanted to take the time to thank you for helping me find Champ (who I've named Elvis). He is the sweetest boy and loves to snuggle and go for walks. He's fantastic around other dogs and much to my surprise (in the best way) is fully housebroken and knows a few tricks! I've told everyone and anyone that will listen my story about the Phoenix Animal Rescue and what a great, seemless process it was to adopt my sweet boy.

Thank you SO much! I love him dearly.

Hi Dana,

"Thank you so much for bringing Alohomora (formerly Liberty) into our lives! She is the absolutely perfect fit for our family. She is a total love bug, and her purr is so loud you can hear it in the next room! I can't believe how well she is getting along with our other cat, Roman, already. It's all because you helped us find the right match and gave us such great advice on how to properly introduce adult cats. I'm attaching a picture of her hard at work being cute as can be so you can see. :) We are looking forward to many happy years with her! Thank you for everything that you do - keep it up!"

Thank you for allowing us to give Scooby a home. As you can see he is adjusting well.

The McCabe Family

I got involved with PAR rescue after I volunteered to contribute some baked good to their fund-raiser bake sale in September. Just spending an afternoon with the dedicated volunteers and the dogs made me realize I wanted to work with the organization. So, I agreed to foster a little white Maltese/Shih-Tzu mix named Diva in my home. Diva was not in our home for 24 hours before we realized how much we wanted a dog to be part of our lives again, so we put in an application to adopt her. She has "graced" our lives so much with her presence that we have re-named her Gracie. She is very people-oriented, loving, and cuddly, and we can't imagine how we ever got along without her. She adores my grandchildren, and even leaped into our two-year-old grandson's lap the first time she met him. Needless to say, any worries we might have had about her getting along with children were quickly put to rest.

She does like to chase our cats in play, and they have realized she is just bluffing and aren't afraid of her. In fact, one of them, Alex, was also a rescue fostered by one of the PAR volunteers. He is the snowshoe-mix pictured on the loveseat with her - he thinks he is a dog, having been raised from a tiny kitten with several big dogs. Our lives have been so enriched by these wonderful animals that might never have made it out of the shelter if it weren't for PAR rescue. We are very grateful to the volunteers for bringing these new "children" into our family.

Dear Phoenix Animal Rescue,

thank you for letting me and my family adopt Brandy (formerly Sally), she is a very happy puppy and she loves her new best friend.

Alisa Pagan

This is Zoey, the sweetest angel ever...I can't imagine how anyone ever gave her up saying, 'She's just too much trouble.' Zoey has lived at my house for about a month now. She has adjusted very well to my routine and is absolutely no trouble; just an absolute delight! I will forever encourage anyone who is thinking of a new dog to go the adoption route. I am sold on giving these amazing animals a new chance at happiness and a 'forever' home.

A very happy new mom

Dana,

As I write this we are all sitting by the fire enjoying the first snow of the season. Prince Beau & Princess Bianca are snuggled up with my son & daughter and I am holding my dog on my lap. It's hard to believe today is our first day as a family- it feels so good to be together. After the heartbreaking loss of our beloved old cat, these two munchkins have brought so much joy into our home. Thank you for rescuing them- they are healing our hearts.

Regards, Julie

Hi Dana,

My name is Kate Daniels and I adopted one of your kittens last week. I just wanted to send you a quick e-mail to let you know that Jethro, now called Winston, is doing extremely well. He is one of the sweetest cats I have ever met. He adores being held, purrs all of the time, sleeps with me every night, and loves my 2 year old son. I believe that you had him in your home and I have to give you credit for raising such an amazing little guy . He has become a part of our family from the minute he came into the house. I will send along pictures when I get a chance but I just wanted to say thanks you for doing such an amazing job with him and for the organization that you run. Have a great weekend and take care.

Kate

Hello Dana,

I was at the PETCO , (returning to the scene of the crime) to get Allister a manicure and pedi. We are so in love with this little guy and we were truly blessed to be able to adopt him. He is doing really well and is full of energy and quite the snuggler come bedtime. My entire family is fighting over who gets to take care of him when we go to Dan's parents for Thanksgiving. I'll send you a picture, please know that he is really happy here and we are taking great care of him. Keep doing what you do, these precious little furry animals really touch people's hearts! He certainly has touched ours.

Dana,

Just wanted to send you an update on our "Happy Scale" - Summer (formerly Spike) the bearded dragon! Summer is having a blast basking, exploring, and gobbling up veggies and crickets like a champ! We are so thrilled too. We knew when "Spike" came up with your rescue that it was time to stop saying "someday" and give this baby a great new home. It was absolutely the right decision and we couldn't be happier. Thank you for saving Summer and giving us the chance for this match made in heaven!

Pebbles (Formerly Sasha) is doing really well!

The first couple of days, Pup & Peanut weren't sure who she was or why she was in their house. Pup has totally accepted her & they play really well together. Peanut is coming around, it's just going to take him a little longer.

Pebbles follows me just about everywhere I go. She & Pup sleep with me. She really is a good & loving dog. We feel as though we hit the jackpot with her!

The pictures were taken by a coworker Friday when I had to go in for a little bit. She just calmly laid on my desk until someone would approach to see her. That's how the different poses were taken.

Bruno/Dana,,

I wanted to send along a thank you for my new family. Mom and Dad are great and my brothers and sisters are fun. My one sister is still getting used to me and growls occasionally. Dad says she's a party pooper. Not sure what he means. I've seen her poop and it's no party. And talk about a big yard to play in. Just makes me tired to think about it.

Thanks again and a big woof to ya,

Shelby (my dog) is putting her in her place when Ali gets to close for comfort.Tigger my cat is doing so much better then I thought. Their not friends yet but he's been coming out and not hiding 24-7.

Also did you notice she sucks on her own nipple? That's the first lol.I would hope she grows out of that.

Oh and when I got her home from the Vet. ect. You would have thought she was born here.Such a love! She's very vocal....I'll send you pictures.

Have a great weekend and Thanks for all you do for the animals!

I have attached a few pics of Cliff (Formerly Wickett) in addition to the documents you requested.. I wanted to give you an update on him. He is a sweetheart! He has lots of personaility. He is 52lbs currently. We can't believe how big he has gotten so quickly. He still has most energy at night and in the morning, so that hasn't changed. But the funniest thing is he hops! He thinks he is a bunny. Actually it's more like bouncing. It is hysterical! We just love him and are enjoying him.

Thanks again, Dolores

Hi, Bruno!

Just writing w/ an update on Gracie. She is absolutely wonderful, and we are so happy that she's joined our family. Gracie is in EXCELLENT health. Her fecal came back clean, her teeth look great, her joints are moving perfectly, organs and temperature normal, and she was polite as could be w/ the veterinary staff. What a good girl!

Gracie is clearly a "velcro dane," and she has already bonded fiercely to her new humans. She is particularly attached to me and never leaves my side. She travels with me from room to room (not even the bathroom is sacred!), only lying down when she thinks I'll be in one spot for a while. Since Dustin and I both work from home, Gracie is rarely alone and I think she really appreciates the company. When I have to leave the house (for errands or whatever else), she usually comes with me. She's a celebrity wherever she goes, though, so these outings take a little longer than they used to!

Each night, Gracie sleeps at the foot of our bed in a nest made of down comforters and blankets. She's also claimed one of the downstairs couches as her own, and she frequently uses it to doze off throughout the day. She knows how to stay comfortable, that's for sure!

She gets on famously with our three cats, and we're all very grateful for the peaceful integration.

Gracie is so friendly, responsive and gentle that I've been thinking very seriously about having her certified as a therapy dog. If we're successful, we would travel to area hospitals and nursing homes... Bringing kisses and comfort wherever we go. I think she would be phenomenal.

I hope you enjoyed this update. Thanks again for connecting us with our beloved Gracie.

Here he is, happy in her new home.

Bruno,

So grateful to have such an amazing puppy, thank you! Her (Formerly Maui) and Maverick are getting along just fine and are already pals as you can see in the pic below. Thanks again!

Bruno,

Just wanted to give you an update on Brooke who we adopted on 2/22/2012 from MaryAnn at the Petco/Exeter Store.

This just was meant to be. Our 5 yr.old Shih Tzu Buddy needed a friend, and my husband needed his own dog, since Buddy is my "pal".

We went to Petco which we rarely do, and there were such beautiful dogs, but Brooke had this wonderful personality, and soulful eyes and my husband just loved her as did I. When we came home, all he did was talk about her, over the next two days it continued, so as you know I applied on Sunday and I picked her up on Wednesday. When I walked into the house with her, he was ecstatic. What's better is Brooke and Buddy get along great, much better then I expected and she fits right in, like she's been here all her life. She's had a tough life for a little girl of 2 yrs. but she's in the right "forever home" and we will love her and take good care of her. She has brought a new light to my husbands eyes, and it's the best gift I have ever given him. It was meant to be. Thanks to you, MaryAnn and all the other wonderful people that work at the rescue for doing what you do for the animals and us humans.

Keep up the great work. Jean, Carl, Buddy and Brooke Staples

Good Morning Dana,

I just wanted to keep you updated. Miss Abbey did wonderfully last night. We have a large master bathroom with a skylight, back window with a perch so she can lay there and watch the birds. My husband fell in love with her from the instant he saw and held her. We are both amazed at how well adjusted she is. I credit the volunteers that took the time with her when she was at Petco.

We will be bringing her out to meet her new fur family on Friday when my husband is home and we will be home with her all weekend.

She meowed alot last night because she really wants to be out and I can't blame her but as soon as we settled down for the night to sleep she was fine and did the same. We have a nice big bed for her and a big fluffy blanket. We kept the carrier minus the door with a blanket in so that she would have a "safety" place to go last night as well. She is so inquisitive. She was giving kisses and loved when we held her.

Thank you again for picking us as her new forever home family. We feel that she has always been a part of our family even though we had not raised her.

Our younger cats were camped out at the bathroom door this morning when we left. I know they can't wait to play with her.

I will keep you updated and send pics.

have a great day

Hi Bruno!

I just wanted to say thank you again for helping me adopt Archibald(Formerly Don). He's more than I had ever hoped for in a dog, he's the perfect companion, and I truly couldn't be happier! My family loves him, he's the center of attention at all times! I have been recommending you guys to everyone for the wonderful work you all do!

Archie says Hi also, and thanks! He enjoys being spoiled!!! :)

Best Wishes, Nicole Kane

Bruno,

Thank you very much for all of your time and help. We now have a new, wonderful member of the family. Isis is a TOTAL sweetheart. We went to another rescue after meeting her yesterday, and honestly, she was the first and last dog we saw; no other compared! So much so that I think another rescue is mad at me for "wasting" their time. Oops. BUT, she totally stole our hearts, so much so that we went back to get her right after.

On the ride home, Isis decided that she didn't want to be alone in the trunk. I meekly tried to keep her there, but despite my efforts, she made it to the back seat, and rode home on my lap. I got kisses the whole way home! She's already calmed down the barking, and mostly listens to our commands ;) No problem eating her food, no accidents, and no fights to go in her crate, despite the puppy eyes and whimpers that melt my heart...

She looked at our cat (Mochi), and then walked away, seemingly indifferent. Mochi, has made his home under the bed and won't come out, the poor thing! I don't think he's ever been with a dog...I hope it gets better!

Anyway the foster parents (Megan and I forgot his name, I'm so bad and so sorry!) we're wonderful. I can't thank them enough for being so incredibly welcoming and awesome!

Thank you for EVERYTHING!

Sincerely, Heather and Ron

Hi, Bruno!

I hope all has been well with you since we last spoke. I thought you might appreciate a little update about Gracie.

I'm not sure I could say enough good things about this marvelous dog. Gracie is my best bud -- We do everything together. She is lovely in the house, very respectful of our three cats, and friendly with people of all ages. She loves to take walks, go on jogs, and go hiking. And, of course, she loves to nap.

When the weather is bad, we burn mental/physical energy by playing "hide and seek" indoors. My husband holds her while I disappear somewhere in the house, then he releases her and says - "WHERE'S MOMMY??" She goes berserk -- Energetically following her nose to my hiding place. Actually, she's an excellent tracker! She has found me in closets, bathtubs, under beds... You name it!

She is a little on the dominant side and requires a knowing handler. I have tried to be very consistent with her, and am confident at this point that she views me as her primary companion and pack leader. She can be stubborn with others, but never dangerous. She's one of the gentlest and most loving dogs I've ever known. Everyone who meets her falls in love with her instantly. She's a favorite at the vet.

I hope all is well with PAR. I've been thinking about becoming a foster parent (for animals) -- What do you think?

Hope to hear from you soon, Amy Elliott

Poppy (Formerly Kate) is doing really great! She loves it here! She's adapted so well and we are just in love with her! She's also growing quite well! She's still small but I can definitely tell she's gotten a bit bigger! Hope all is well!

Hi Dana and Bruno,

I just got together pictures of Miley and our family to send to you and Bruno tonight. I have nothing but the best to say about her. She is just a great girl! We get so many compliments on her and she loves everyone she meets. It has been almost a month and we feel like she has been with us forever. She loves to play in the yard with the kids and hang out with my husband when he is working during the day. For the most part we can leave her without crating her and she never destroys anything or goes to the bathroom in the house. We are working on some of her manners... like waiting to walk out the door after us, wait for her food, come, stay... and she is responding very well. She is the best dog to hike with...no leash required! That velcro quality keeps her right with us close enough to leash her if we come across others using the trails. She must be from the city... she has no reaction to our motorcycles, loud bangs, kids running around playing soccer or anything. She is truly an amazing dog and a perfect fit for us! Last night was her first vet appointment with our vet in Landenburg...they LOVED her. She was a model patient and weighed in at 60 lbs. Funny... my husband and I used to call our recently passed Rottie Princess the best dog ever.. in fun we did a Miley / Princess comparison. We have come to find that maybe Miley is the best dog ever..hahaha! One of the greatest thing we have found... she is not a nervous car rider! She hops right in the back of the jeep with her harness and is ready to roll (no panting or slobbering). She was meant to be...we love her and I am pretty sure she is super happy with us :) This weekend we had 25 people to our home for a party..kids, teenagers, adult, elderly people all going in various directions and she was just a perfect. We must have heard praises of her at least 50 times. Thank you so much for all of the care and love you gave to her when you had her... We couldn't be happier! I will send you some pictures tonight.

Thanks Koren & the whole crew (Gary, Jordan, Sydney & KK)

Dana,

I just wanted to let you know that Finnegan has settled in really well at his new home! Finn has the most energy I have ever seen in a kitten but he is so funny and so darn cute! He is such a snuggle bug too! I wanted to share this picture of him that he took of himself today on my iPhone! Lol he is so smart and definitely a ham! He makes us laugh and our cat has become very curious about him but they haven't met yet. We are going to take it slow. Thanks again for helping us bring our newest member of the family home!

Hi Dana!

Mr Sparkles is doing great! We are thrilled to have him. He and our dog Henri still have a ways to go, but he and Mr Peppers (our other cat) are playing together and grooming one another.

Hi Dana,

Just a quick note to tell you that Shadow (formerly Addie) is doing well. Eating, using litter box, and playing non-stop! She has grown very attached to me already and is so lovable! Thanks again!

Hi Dana,

We just wanted to thank you for all you have done with Bo. She is a wonderful dog and is doing great with the boys and our puppy Abby. We got all of the records and couldn't be happier with her. Bo is a great big sister to Abby. They play together all the time. The boys love to play ball with Bo also. She goes for walks and plays hard every day. She has settled in and listen to her commands well. Still working on the walking on a leash. She is a great BIG sister to our pup. I couldn't be happier with her and how she is doing. Thanks for fostering her in her time of need. Once again thanks for all your help and we are so thankful.

Thank you, Marc

Dear Bruno,

My husband, Mike, and I wanted to send you an update on our dog, Smokey that we adopted from PAR at the end of last September.

Smokey has blossomed into the most gentle and sweet dog. Everyone who meets him is absolutely wild about him. He LOVES the dog park, and we even take him to daycare a few days a week to play all day while we're at work. The staff at his daycare love him, they always light up when they see him. Smokey has even become buddies with our cat, Winston. Smokey is also amazing with my parent's lab mix, who is very insecure and aggressive around other dogs. In fact, Smokey is the only dog he can play with; Smoke is very good at "reading" other dogs and sensing if they are feeling uncomfortable or unsure. Needless to say, we absolutely love him and can't imagine our lives without him. He is always making us smile and laugh.

Recently, we learned that Smokey's heart isn't doing as well as we'd hoped. Although his pacemaker is working perfectly, and keeping the rhythm of his heart in check, he was diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure as well as a blood clot in his heart (it is on the edge of his heart, rather than right in the middle). He is on daily medications and we make sure to give him lots of extra love and treats (he goes crazy for apple slices!). We hope to have him for years to come, he has come to mean so much to us. Mike and I would like to thank you and all of those at PAR who helped give Smokey a second chance at the life he so deserves and cared for him after his heart surgery last July. Without all of you, we wouldn't have our wonderful companion. Keep up the good work, thanks again.

Lindsey & Mike Falco

Hi Dana,

I just wanted to say "Thank You" again for giving Trooper (previously known as Puffy) a second chance. He is a wonderful little pup. I also want to thank you for being so accommodating during the adoption process. You and Bruno were great at keeping me up to day on Trooper's pre and post surgery condition. I really appreciated the pictures you sent, almost on a daily basis. Phoenix Animal Rescue really cares for the animals that they take under their wings. I would highly recommend your agency to anyone searching for loving companion.

Hi Phoenix,

So Rocco has been a part of our family now for just over a week! After much discussion, we had decided to change his name from Ronaldo to Rocco… nothing against Ronaldo, it’s just a mouthful! He’s used to it now, and even responds to it (when he wants to). He’s definitely got a mind of his own and loves to keep us on our toes, but we wouldn’t have it any other way! He’s a ball of energy, light, and fun, and it’s a privilege to have him as a part of our family. He does amazingly in his crate when we put him there while we’re at work, and is such a quiet puppy! He very rarely barks, and when he does it’s usually at the most random things (i.e. shopping carts, trees, and flags. He REALLY doesn’t like flags). He’s mostly housetrained, but we’ve had a few accidents... We’re chalking that up to the fact that he’s got some tummy troubles now, but he’s on medicine for them so they should be gone soon! We’ve started him on clicker training, and he seems to be responding well to it. He loves his toys and loves getting played with. There’s an area in the back of our complex that a lot of people take their dogs to, and you can tell that he is so happy playing with the other dogs. He’s a big people puppy too, and loves meeting new people. I feel like I’m saying ‘love’ a lot, but with Rocco I feel like that’s the only way to explain how he feels about things! I’ve never met a dog who is just so happy to be alive and to be experiencing things. Everything new is an adventure, and everyone is a potential friend. He’s the most wonderful dog, and we thank you so much for allowing us to have him as part of our family! Next time we’re in the area we’ll make sure to stop by. Hope all is well on your end!

Best, Kat Staargaard, Steve Jordan (AND ROCCO!)

Hi, Dana.

Hi, Dana. Remember me? I adopted little Cassidy from the litter of three black kittens you and Bruno cared for. Her new name is Eva, and I wanted to give you an update. Remember when you said she and her sisters were so young they were still learning how to be kittens? Well - Eva has graduated! She is fearless! And curious, and playful, and loving. I'll attach some photos that shows how hard it seems to be for her to adjust. Hah! As you can see, the other cats are coming to terms with her arrival. I've even seen early signs of grooming amidst the play.

If you still have the posting you first put up about "Cassidy", send it to me by email. If it's not available any more, that's fine. I just thought it would be cute to keep. And that first week was such a rush that I didn't get to save it once I chose her to join our family.

Thanks to you and Bruno for finding them and caring for her.

Best wishes from Angela, Eva, Slugger and Opie

Hi Dana,

Just wanted to follow up with you. Things are going great with Snickers. His transition did not take long at all. He and the dog get along fine and he is getting more and more social with each day that passes. He has a few “favorite spots” like on the bay window in the family room and the chair in the dining room. He also likes to sleep at the bottom of my bed. I will send some pics along when I have a chance.

Jen

Hi Dana,

Here she is, happy in her new home.

Just thought I'd send in an update as promised!

Emery (formerly Sam) has settled into my home wonderfully with plenty of spunk and affection. He is completely spoiled as expected! My resident cat, Sasha, has become quite taken with him in a motherly way. He follows her everywhere, they play together, and give each other baths. She even forfeits her treats and toys for him! Thanks to you and your volunteers for all you do. He is a perfect addition to my family and I can't imagine life without him.

Attached are some pictures of Emery in his new pampered life :)

Hi Dana,

Here she is, happy in her new home.

I just wanted to shoot you a couple of pics of the babies Wyatt and Piper:-)

We are all doing well and they are both amazing little kitties that are fitting right into our lives, hearts and home :-)

Thanks so much Dana for doing such a great job “training” them . We have had no accidents yet and the scratching – even with the posts around the house – has been minimal.

Hello,

Here she is, happy in her new home.

Just a quick Happy Tails from Mina (Belly).

Mina had a very busy year. Passed puppy class with flying colors, got her CGC at 6 months of age, was spayed, goes to work every day with me and is such a wonderful dog. She enjoys playing ball the most. Thank you so much for letting me adopt her.

Sue Daubert

Hi Bruno!

Here she is, happy in her new home.

I just wanted to give you an update. We adopted Bailey (formerly Precious) about a month ago, and she is adjusting quite well. She is full of life and energy. She also has a LOT of hair, which is something I got used to fairly quickly thankfully... :-). She has helped us both out in more ways then she will ever know. The loss of my yorkie Lilly, was absolutely the hardest thing I have ever gone through thus far in my life. I loved her more than anything in this world, and to have her taken from me so suddenly, without warning, was even more heart wrenching. There isn't a day that goes by where I don't think about her, or talk about her. I miss her, there is no denying that. But when I sit and think about my now angel, and I start to cry, Bailey is there to lick my face clean. She makes me laugh, she keeps me busy, and above all, she gives me comfort. She has no idea that I lost a baby, and she can't comprehend how she has helped me. All she knows is she now has a home, and 2 owners who she has taken quite well to, especially Nick. She absolutely adores him, and follows his every move, which is nice. He needed that more than I think he realized. She is actually distracting me from writing this to you, by walking all over me. How dare I not pay attention to her for a few minutes :-). She is definitley a mush, and a little bit of an acrobat too. So in all, I wanted to thank you for letting me adopt Bailey. She was the best medicine for a broken heart. While she can never take the place of my Lilly, she has made me realize that no matter what happens to a loved pet, I can find another spot in my heart to open up to another one in need as well. The loss of a pet, no matter how old they are, or what the cause is, is never easy. They are family. But you can also save a life in return, and I truly believe Lilly sent Bailey to me, because she knows she will have the best home, for the rest of her life. So, thank you again, she is truly a life saver!

Dear Phoenix Animal Rescue,

Dior is doing great. We have said many time to each other, we are so glad we have her, she is so much fun. Our biggest thanks go to my daughter-in-law, Anna, and your organization, and my intuition, on this super great little dog. As you know, we have never had a dog this little before, but what a joy she is. Please pass this on to Bruno, because he sure is right up on our list of great people who made our lives so much better. Thanks again.........

Bruno,

I am happy to say that Bo (formerly known as Boo) has been making incredible progress! It has been a difficult month of medications and hand feedings, but Bo is adapting and overcoming. When we brought him to our home (June 3, 2012), he was only 132 lbs and had a severe case of pneumonia. We originally thought that his malnourishment stemmed from more serious heart or liver problems. Bo does have a heart murmur, but it turns out that the pneumonia was what had been causing him the greatest issues. Once we were able to treat and clear that up, we have been putting some weight on him. Bo continues to be a fussy eater, but with the right prompting at meal time, he has been doing fantastic! He is now at a healthy 159lbs (as of July 6,02101), but could stand to gain just a few more, to be on the safe side. Bo has bonded with our other Great Dane, Samson, and the two are best of friends! They are never more than five feet apart from one another throughout the day. They both enjoy going for walks together and Samson has been teaching Bo to swim in the pond. Bo has shown that he is extremely smart and follows Samson's lead when we give commands. They can both be pretty stubborn sometimes too, but mostly, these big guys are big babies. Bo's personality has really been shining through, now that he is feeling better. He could barely hold up his back end and would get tired and winded easily. Now, he can stand on his hind legs and runs around the yard and Samson gets tired out first! The vet has even commented on what an amazing turn-around he has seen in Bo since we first brought him in. I cannot tell you how thankful we are that we were able to give Bo this chance at a new life. It is incredible to watch his progress and to see the kinship that he and Samson have formed. We just wanted to say thank you for your support through all of this too. Bo is really an incredible dog and we are so proud to have him in our home.
